let go most of my stuff - suits and all clothes that reminded me of my past
career.</span></span><span style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br />
<br />
<span style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: white; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial;">I
needed to pursue my other passion so I made up my mind not to shop for
ready-to-wear for a while. I was inspired by another blogger who did one year
of not shopping clothes. You can link to her blog <a href="http://goodbyevalentino.com/">here</a>.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: white; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial;">For
this blouse, I used <a href="http://www.simplicity.com/p-2339-misses-tops.aspx">NewLook
6483</a> in View D but I added sleeves to it. The fabric is Swiss Dot. Its
light texture makes it perfect for the summer heat. I did a test garment
without the front and back facings before sewing my fashion fabric. The fit was
spot-on in my opinion so no adjustments were made but not until I was ready to
sew the real thing.</span></span></span><br />

<span style="background-color: white; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; line-height: 115%;">Followed
the pattern instructions as written but was not happy that the last step threw
me off! The shoulder seams were the last ones to be sewed and it was difficult.
I tried hand-sewing it but it looked ugly so I tried my way instead. First, I
sewed the shoulder seams and side seams then I attached the front and back
facings in the shoulder and front and back neck lines. I finished the facings
inside attaching it as the pattern instruction. This way I didn't have the hard
time to connect the shoulders seams last which made it so frustrating.</span><br />

I had the hardest time perfecting the invisible zipper although the pattern was very simple. Learned to overcast, do darts and attached an invisible zipper .... overall a success!<br />

<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%; mso-bidi-font-size: 11.0pt;">First things first! Needle
organization. After procrastinating for
so long, I am back to square one. The hard part is I couldn't figure out right
away what needle size is attached into my machine and I thought there should be
a solution to this!<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%; mso-bidi-font-size: 11.0pt;">One day I was browsing
Thread Magazine and one lady had the same problem I have. She used a tomato
pincushion and marked each section with different needle size. Each time she
attaches the needle to her sewing machine, she'll put a glass-head pin in the
pincushion in its place. So I decided to use the same concept, I made myself a
needle book and on it are pages marked with needle sizes.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
I am currently finishing a Christmas quilt and I am having
issues with it. The recommended backing fabric size was off even if I literally
followed the author's instructions to the letter. This is so supposed to be the largest quilt I am making thus far and as
a newbie I have to rely whatever I read. It seems like the pattern was not
tested for accuracy.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
But anyway, I figured out a way to make it work. I cut the backing fabric in half lengthwise and added two columns of rectangles in the center and also
added fabric in the top and bottom areas. </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
Hopefully I will get better as time goes by. For now, I have
to put this aside to give attention to another project - my son's Halloween
costume. The finish quilt I will post in time for Christmas season.<o:p></o:p></div>

September is sewing month. I decided to sew something to wear for my daughter's school event next month. This is the first dress I attempted to create and it took two practice garments, lots of seam ripping and late nights to brought this to life. I'm proud of myself, what can I say! But truthfully, this wasn't an easy task. I've browsed other bloggers' versions and it took them just days to finished theirs.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiULCQUGggg8XgNkIEGVlqlT4PqPhS4SX5pPX3vQY7aw0qP3adWoEEDNJtAAyaebcABrGFNUaNJLJ4iaR5aYjDmH2CRIl6l9kxxzf0AFPmobmSsiiV0IeEnSj7OAQYsdrcSPy2r4zwctDs/s1600/014-resize.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiULCQUGggg8XgNkIEGVlqlT4PqPhS4SX5pPX3vQY7aw0qP3adWoEEDNJtAAyaebcABrGFNUaNJLJ4iaR5aYjDmH2CRIl6l9kxxzf0AFPmobmSsiiV0IeEnSj7OAQYsdrcSPy2r4zwctDs/s320/014-resize.jpg" style="cursor: move;" width="214" /></a></div>
<br />
The first practice garment was way too big and so I figured how in the world can I make this worked. Rereading the pattern instructions and notations, YouTube videos and researching books helped me modified the pattern. The second practice garment was a perfect fit so I was fired up to start the real thing.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhW509ehSNxVLmJw5E4ETGwJblmySV-BHgTvO3kTlDHNy5LO3rzUopZZv4LcC80iAYIZB_g5i1a1HHTDOCUlvcA6wnRSbYZ1pevmJf-h99G1fb4SZrm71o7Yv3p0ZZ6nWJ3Ayiz3G1ArOw/s1600/007-resize.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhW509ehSNxVLmJw5E4ETGwJblmySV-BHgTvO3kTlDHNy5LO3rzUopZZv4LcC80iAYIZB_g5i1a1HHTDOCUlvcA6wnRSbYZ1pevmJf-h99G1fb4SZrm71o7Yv3p0ZZ6nWJ3Ayiz3G1ArOw/s320/007-resize.jpg" width="214" /></a>I soon realized I have a big hurdle ahead of me. The fabric I purchased has a nap and I have to match the design and center it in the front bodice. Had it been just a solid color, it would have been easier to do. I have to psyched up myself that I can tackle this and refused to believe that it will be one of those unfinished project.<br />
<br />
Halfway through, I asked my daughter to do the fitting and was surprised to know that it was still a little bit loose in the waistline. Rip, rip, rip I go... {sigh} but I didn't want to give up yet. Next day, fitting again and I can tell my kid was getting annoyed already but voila.... it perfectly fits. I was so happy I finally did it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
Now, my daughter is supposed to be wearing this in her homecoming dance but decided not to. I'm not sure why but I didn't take it as a bad thing. In my mind, she was still not convinced that I did a good job and perhaps in my part I still have to sew some more. As a rookie, I think I nailed it to a point.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjr2B7d1L0NK_EGNPDu55_ojfN9GF01albx8lBarfSqyS9aJOb1a6rMGViElfnK4z3f0v9BFoNdbSaxtbRMn61vswsTZkpmm4Fu6S69WM_TyunM50WuUJMFy_zvzVlOLgy_HW0yQpWwQqI/s1600/023-resize.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjr2B7d1L0NK_EGNPDu55_ojfN9GF01albx8lBarfSqyS9aJOb1a6rMGViElfnK4z3f0v9BFoNdbSaxtbRMn61vswsTZkpmm4Fu6S69WM_TyunM50WuUJMFy_zvzVlOLgy_HW0yQpWwQqI/s320/023-resize.jpg" width="214" /></a></div>
I can only wished that I took photos step by step but the process was too tedious for me to even begin. This was accomplished using <a href="http://www.simplicity.com/p-7502-misses-miss-petite-dresses-project-runway-collection.aspx" target="_blank">Simplicity Project Runway Pattern #1803</a>, tafetta for my fabric and lots of patience and persistence.<div class="blogger-post-footer">~~Jane</div>{Jane}http://www.blogger.com/profile/08458555824403310135noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5754672074969435613.post-6220576832528963742012-02-26T16:51:00.000-06:002012-02-26T16:51:15.283-06:00A Cupcake That Won't Make You Gain Weight... Ever. Promise!<span style="font-family: inherit;">It’s been awhile back since I updated my blog and it dawned on me that I should be sharing regularly what is going on with all my sewing. No more holidays coming up and my home organizing is still a work in progress and that’s what keeping me from creating more things. Yeah I know, more excuses! I’ve been donating and purging like crazy and I am not done yet but I have to stop for a moment to make something for a very special friend.<o:p></o:p></span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"> </span><br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">Yesterday was the advanced celebration of my good friend’s birthday and I thought of giving her something that is cute and handmade. It was very easy to do and friends who gathered last night liked it too. Using a silicone cupcake liner, 2 colors of felt fabrics for the frosting and for the cupcake base, a t-shirt scrap for the top portion and some fiber fill,<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>these adorable pincushions were a sure hit. Nothing spectacular but who can resist a cupcake! Tell me, it makes you smile, isn’t it?</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt; text-align: justify;"><br />

It’s so packed with toys, books and little knick-knacks that it is no longer warm and cozy. I have the same wall art since 2005 so I am looking for a replacement. The simplest thing is just what we need to spice up a space.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"> </span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">During the week, I made simple pillowcases and change the fabric of an old chair I purchased in a thrift shop to unify the color in the room. If you can cut squares and rectangles, you can make this easily in less than 2 hours. I used 18” (45.72cm) square pillow form but any size can be sewn in the same manner. You just need to adjust the sizes of the fabric to cut. I sew this using a <span style="font-family: Calibri;">½-</span></span><span style="font-family: inherit;">inch seam allowance (otherwise indicated) which is already included in the cut fabrics.</span></div><span style="font-family: inherit;"></span><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiirC9C7ZDtVNyh82dxG1rz2ifCv2NZ-pY7oPf9D0MH-AnAvKWocLEfbUFoltu7mqgXqo3FlUj8qRktVWdwrxntD8AB3U17c1Gu1qFypPNximsantPNRFwAwKUDbFmSeVk1QBX1M_Q3dnw/s1600/007-resize.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiirC9C7ZDtVNyh82dxG1rz2ifCv2NZ-pY7oPf9D0MH-AnAvKWocLEfbUFoltu7mqgXqo3FlUj8qRktVWdwrxntD8AB3U17c1Gu1qFypPNximsantPNRFwAwKUDbFmSeVk1QBX1M_Q3dnw/s320/007-resize.jpg" width="214" /></a></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt; text-align: justify;"></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"><o:p></o:p></span> <span style="font-family: inherit;">Materials:<o:p></o:p></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"> </span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">½ yard fabric</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">matching thread<o:p></o:p></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"> </span><span style="font-family: inherit;">18” (45.72cm) pillow form<o:p></o:p></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"> </span><span style="font-family: inherit;">sewing pins<o:p></o:p></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"> </span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />

<span style="font-family: inherit;"> </span><br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">The process was quick and easy. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Since it is made out of a pillowcase, it is already halfway done. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The pillowcase is folded lengthwise and measured 15” from top to bottom in the folded edge and 16” in the opposite side. The two sides are then cut to form the handles and sewed together. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>A ¼”-wide bias tape was used for the handles’ raw edges. To reinforce the bottom, a 4” straight line was sewed perpendicular to the side seams. Here is the end result:<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgS_AjDubjn3LJC4wVd_-__hDipIm2YtK_1zAvJvdFl5_7YhMZ2ce_IWGpDWZV6u5LuYQXdkMnPiD7j5yh5zLT7iiqB1TvorAK43jTQ_KwhNNdjUckz9BDiy0ivrnCzrzJ8UAalLusA_3M/s1600/005-resize.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgS_AjDubjn3LJC4wVd_-__hDipIm2YtK_1zAvJvdFl5_7YhMZ2ce_IWGpDWZV6u5LuYQXdkMnPiD7j5yh5zLT7iiqB1TvorAK43jTQ_KwhNNdjUckz9BDiy0ivrnCzrzJ8UAalLusA_3M/s320/005-resize.jpg" width="214" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUpxCFkKzE61fC2xzk2itvQ_2KMDwCxbOgYDZPjNvBGEzh5_KNhkUhuiTz6U4IChWiPtl6GJ7Z3MUO0ZNMTxHtBUrWXI74pcxnRPnMN29-z9hGPbISY5767iOg7ZekIYNOKzUJPMzNoeY/s1600/011-resize.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUpxCFkKzE61fC2xzk2itvQ_2KMDwCxbOgYDZPjNvBGEzh5_KNhkUhuiTz6U4IChWiPtl6GJ7Z3MUO0ZNMTxHtBUrWXI74pcxnRPnMN29-z9hGPbISY5767iOg7ZekIYNOKzUJPMzNoeY/s320/011-resize.jpg" width="214" /></a></div><br />

Whether you are cooking inside the house, doing barbeque, gardening or any chores – an apron is somehow necessary to protect your clothing.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">And that is exactly what I made over the week. I found a colorful fabric in store with pink, yellow and brown colors. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I also purchased a solid pink fabric for the bottom half of the project. This apron will be used by my teenage daughter. She needs to help out a little bit in the kitchen while mom is in the sewing machine. <span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The harshest criticism was from my daughter of course. She said that a half-apron only looked best in skinny people. A full-size apron she said is best for me. That made me laughed… it is perhaps one way for her to tell me to lose weight. Sure enough it didn’t look good on me but perfect for her. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Here are the pictures. See for yourself. </span></div>

Calling all sickies!<span style="font-family: inherit;">I like to be different … in a good way. So every year, I usually create something for my son that probably only few people will attempt to do. Today, my 4-year was wearing a costume inspired by one of America’s famous doctors on TV. Yes, I am talking about Dr Mehmet Oz.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEB7PDvk3bMp5C8Gi9GQqD0Y7sUCyiHdYKPIJJoSTM1dpcWvVab2PzUq9X5gcGAma32ETlGepMDIBBuRIa5cQtf6EG6ej5Q4DDkYNKMdOLCvf4rsb26MSaBWAxP2YbYVdHB5xbI9x6Nwo/s1600/002-resize.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="display: inline !important; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEB7PDvk3bMp5C8Gi9GQqD0Y7sUCyiHdYKPIJJoSTM1dpcWvVab2PzUq9X5gcGAma32ETlGepMDIBBuRIa5cQtf6EG6ej5Q4DDkYNKMdOLCvf4rsb26MSaBWAxP2YbYVdHB5xbI9x6Nwo/s320/002-resize.jpg" width="214" /></a></div><span style="clear: left; display: inline !important; font-family: inherit; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"></span><br />
<br />
The “Dr Oz” costume was created using Simplicity Pattern #3650. The biggest challenge was putting up the sleeves as mentioned in my older post. The toy stethoscope is more expensive than the cost of the fabric and pattern itself so for a while I was scratching my head. I ironed-on the alphabets to make it interesting because without it I don't think people will notice. Needless to say, I was happy that it was a success.<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;"><br />
It turned out that everybody liked it in school…. Of course I am referring to the parents’ feedbacks. Kids didn’t care as long as they have all the candies. Here are some the photos taken today in school.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKyMEjJDcDLF6rLH0AdSojsuW0fSfsHpDezBAzLxjgqX0GVbbZeiCkSJ3KuWyYcbFTBVFBWQYOiskmt7UrmjOIAQ3MWeTc4Y5iligqpuyvP6P3vMylDCfVPO7zo7nOrGaMD1kge5AZCOM/s1600/055-resize.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="211" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKyMEjJDcDLF6rLH0AdSojsuW0fSfsHpDezBAzLxjgqX0GVbbZeiCkSJ3KuWyYcbFTBVFBWQYOiskmt7UrmjOIAQ3MWeTc4Y5iligqpuyvP6P3vMylDCfVPO7zo7nOrGaMD1kge5AZCOM/s320/055-resize.jpg" width="320" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQ6MGAjQGuNDne9IvfvAsspPuHHXskx9G24_Ufb98cYwQ_jb9UG05gioAQZ1RE_w827-5cS2eB7BFhxJF41bnLlWj43yNMgZPfjkRa9sGb_iEDupUeLkn-iUySmFl8-ZJQO2ZkT_WnAXA/s1600/041-resize.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQ6MGAjQGuNDne9IvfvAsspPuHHXskx9G24_Ufb98cYwQ_jb9UG05gioAQZ1RE_w827-5cS2eB7BFhxJF41bnLlWj43yNMgZPfjkRa9sGb_iEDupUeLkn-iUySmFl8-ZJQO2ZkT_WnAXA/s320/041-resize.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

At times this may sound ridiculous, but I am not giving up. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;">Ah… the fun part is that I finally finished sewing my son’s costume which I will be posting on Halloween day. I’m excited for him to wear it and shoot photos of my son outside of my house. However, recently he has expressed that he’s not willing to wear the costume anymore. I am hopeful my son will change his mind, otherwise; my hard work is not appreciated… again.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"> </span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;">I also completed my first handbag ever. This was what I wanted to do for a very long time. In fact, the fabric that I chose was already cut awhile back and not until recently was I so motivated to finally finish it. Here it is,</span><br />

So being the typical me, I opted for something else. I knew in my mind that there is no need for me to use embroidery thread and rick-racks for accents. I intended this to be a test project to see if I can sew it easily anyway. It turned out that I had some challenges. The hardest part for me was to attach the lining. </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxP-u3oUQbs5CmpJBxTvgRMr32cMFUkS7wux-gidb2_sFpJXOskvGQ5irv8Z3msD-zIIvDQhobm_5DYlS44Oce404IG9ZfFvEokJke_bYGfElvpA4vvbnf_epxktBxwxxb-nNFA0tCrp8/s1600/006-resize.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxP-u3oUQbs5CmpJBxTvgRMr32cMFUkS7wux-gidb2_sFpJXOskvGQ5irv8Z3msD-zIIvDQhobm_5DYlS44Oce404IG9ZfFvEokJke_bYGfElvpA4vvbnf_epxktBxwxxb-nNFA0tCrp8/s320/006-resize.jpg" width="320" /></span></a></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">Logically, I knew I had to sew the pieces right side facing each other but what confused me was the turning of the fabric inside-out which had me to do a trial and error. Thank goodness for seam rippers, they can undo mistakes. </span><span style="font-family: inherit;"> </span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">On the other hand, I was so excited to see my finish product. I felt as if I created something really special and I asked my 16-year old daughter to critique my work and if she could use it at school but unfortunately she said the handbag is too big for her taste. She requested me to sew it one-third from its original size. If I want this to work, somehow I need to listen to my daughter so I can see her wear the fun stuff I will be sewing in the future. Until my next adventure… Nighty night!<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="blogger-post-footer">~~Jane</div>{Jane}http://www.blogger.com/profile/08458555824403310135noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5754672074969435613.post-69503220847990342982011-10-13T20:08:00.010-05:002011-10-28T00:00:12.034-05:00My First Sewing Project since 2009<div style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">This will definitely be a busy week for me, trying to multitask all my to-do list for my upcoming midterm exam for school, household chores, garage sale (second attempt, I did okay last week) and of course keeping track of my sewing progress. <o:p></o:p></span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"> </span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">Yes, I was finally done cutting the pieces needed for my son's Halloween costume and started to sew the top part today. Everything was store bought and so the last time I used my sewing machine was in 2009.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"> </span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;">This year, I am keeping my fingers cross that hopefully I can pull this thing together. My little guy wants to be a pumpkin and I told him “cannot be my boy, I already bought the fabric and pattern” and he said “okay, mom”. Poor boy, he has to be what mommy sews. Fourth costume coming up…<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="blogger-post-footer">~~Jane</div>{Jane}http://www.blogger.com/profile/08458555824403310135noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5754672074969435613.post-85384441554961584162011-10-06T16:45:00.041-05:002011-11-05T13:54:10.452-05:00Patterns and Fabrics on Sale!<span style="font-family: inherit;">Temptation, temptation...Stop! I kept telling myself but I can’t help it. I am just human. My favorite store </span><span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="color: black;">started their Columbus Day sale today. </span>As usual, I bought plenty patterns again for my FUTURE sewing projects. So much for challenging myself!<o:p></o:p></span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"> </span><br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">I subscribed to their email campaign so every now and then I know what’s on sale. </span><span style="color: black; font-family: inherit;">Patterns</span><span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="color: black;"> are sale for $1</span> </span><span style="font-family: inherit;">each so for me it is rather urgent more than anything else. Regular Price for patterns range from $2 to $19 and I only buy when it’s on sale but I always get carried away. Have you heard the saying - “only fools pay full price”?</span></div><div style="clear: both; margin: 0in 0in 10pt; text-align: justify;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiiKs7Tstu_odxwhfKCQZvY7xyOJ4Mn-Yzv5KvBBR4B4PEOonRJQD7lIEpeLtZA0CE-3sz7RNd9RDJ4JH_OvaZcN3f1UghHqSvRQ0WfvaK_odzCVMmU_3bUU9LZg7L2GYOmIlNRlnLEhys/s1600/001-resize.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiiKs7Tstu_odxwhfKCQZvY7xyOJ4Mn-Yzv5KvBBR4B4PEOonRJQD7lIEpeLtZA0CE-3sz7RNd9RDJ4JH_OvaZcN3f1UghHqSvRQ0WfvaK_odzCVMmU_3bUU9LZg7L2GYOmIlNRlnLEhys/s320/001-resize.jpg" width="320" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJQm5QnBUctkvzMLtAq1TvX7r2qlx1EDh_NC4x9eZ3yB6IBdNK4HWlcO9dnLmt2ZqieQ9MVUuukkGMIa9A_TwmxnRs1N3gBiQWYZDgYpkyWmwe4E4Z18Ds4H5-Jar-a5EL0TyAh97WhkY/s1600/001-resize.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a><span style="font-family: inherit;">When I’m in the store, I go straight to the pattern area and had been my routine. I don’t stick around browsing the catalogues because the longer I stay - chances are the more stuff I buy. Here’s my strategy, I usually browse the manufacturers websites </span><span style="font-family: inherit;">to look for the patterns I want then I buy it in store. That way I’m out of the store in 15 minutes or so. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I also bought a black vinyl to cover my piano’s chair and a fabric for my apron project.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></span></div><div class="blogger-post-footer">~~Jane</div>{Jane}http://www.blogger.com/profile/08458555824403310135noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5754672074969435613.post-57681303349811125192011-09-28T14:23:00.008-05:002011-10-27T23:57:52.084-05:00Home Hobby Table On-Hold<span style="font-family: inherit;">I've been trying to schedule a garage sale for three weeks now but it seems like I cannot get it done. My husband just informed me last night that we are going to his friend's housewarming this weekend. The bad thing about it is that I am using my </span><em><span style="font-family: inherit;">home hobby table</span></em><span style="font-family: inherit;"><em> </em>to display my stuff which I need so badly to start cutting the fabric for my son's Halloween costume.<o:p></o:p></span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br />
</span><span style="font-family: inherit;">It's getting cold in Chicago and I must, I must, I must unload my house with all the junk I accumulated over the years. I have a feeling that I will be hoarding fabrics... more fabrics to say the least so I need some space.</span><span style="font-family: Calibri;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></span><div class="blogger-post-footer">~~Jane</div>{Jane}http://www.blogger.com/profile/08458555824403310135noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5754672074969435613.post-1989810997614899002011-09-26T11:12:00.019-05:002011-11-04T21:57:46.699-05:00Books A Beginning Sewer Should Have<span style="font-family: inherit;">Today, I started gathering all my sewing books.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><strong><em>"Sewing 101"</em></strong> by Creative Publishing International has been my favorite.What I like about this book are the many illustrations and simple projects which I will be doing in the future.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLtlRzj4-eTqHJgivXBkYTjvp0bn1nlb57bPzs662CT-g-WfnvIUe7eyoIbLxtH5845x7tdwI01fZQf6KnCf00kvNv0NNm3QRF1fAMvjdT72O-H8SzeZfuCkr00VCeBNNDZrZLOd-CB78/s1600/001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLtlRzj4-eTqHJgivXBkYTjvp0bn1nlb57bPzs662CT-g-WfnvIUe7eyoIbLxtH5845x7tdwI01fZQf6KnCf00kvNv0NNm3QRF1fAMvjdT72O-H8SzeZfuCkr00VCeBNNDZrZLOd-CB78/s320/001.JPG" width="269" /></a></div><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;">I also owned <strong><em>"Simplicity's Simply The Best Sewing Book"</em></strong> which is a good reference for someone learning how to sew. </span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhob2pAQlDOrlUgN9BHV8fZZ6MzA8ONwpGeFKnzlqIAIJi-f_aOswl5WsxmZpS-QUwPmUHrh1aaxzXlvmuRhg51LHfl4Rv460NMAsZx5f0Ath6PFLkiRexgBB4J-5xFkqwa47I8_Gc0NoM/s1600/002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhob2pAQlDOrlUgN9BHV8fZZ6MzA8ONwpGeFKnzlqIAIJi-f_aOswl5WsxmZpS-QUwPmUHrh1aaxzXlvmuRhg51LHfl4Rv460NMAsZx5f0Ath6PFLkiRexgBB4J-5xFkqwa47I8_Gc0NoM/s320/002.JPG" width="314" /></a></div><span style="font-family: inherit;"> </span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;">I've borrowed so many wonderful books in the nearby public library but I figured reading every single one of them is getting me nowhere and may I also mention that I have sooooooo many sewing patterns I collected over the years. **sigh**</span><div class="blogger-post-footer">~~Jane</div>{Jane}http://www.blogger.com/profile/08458555824403310135noreply@blogger.com0
